Urmi Jadhav is a transgender hijra activist who works with the Humsafar Trust in Mumbai, India. She works as an outreach worker and handles community interaction workshops as an administratorial assistant. Urmi has also worked as a senior associate with project Sanjeevani – a support group for people living with HIV; and as a project counsellor on target interventions with the MSM community. Urmi is the president of a hijra community based organisation called Kinnari Kastoori and is a vocal activist for hijra and transgender rights.
A performing artiste by hobby, Urmi loves choreographing dance pieces and is also one of the core members of a popular dance troupe in Mumbai, the Dancing Queens. Urmi has also appeared in several documentaries.
An English (Hons.) graduate from Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi and a Social Communications Media graduate from Sophia’s Polytechnic in Mumbai: Rucha finds joy in putting together people and ideas to create films. This is the first time she has stepped into the shoes of a director, her usual forté being production.
