Season 3 of Satyamev Jayate in 2014 again proved to be spectacular and eye opening as they dealt with issues like depression, tuberculosis, LGBT issues and 377, harmful notions and effects of masculinity in India, road accidents and importance of sports. The 19 October 2014 episode dealt with problems faced by LGBT people in India due to discrimination by the society and the law that makes homosexuality illegal. A series of guests came on the show. These people from different walks of life belonged to or were associated to the LGBT community and movement in India.
We saw Gazal talking about her struggle as a boy child with a soul of a woman, her running away from home, her parents’ amazing understanding levels and eventually her happy transform into her true self.
In this section Aamir spoke to her parents Mr. Bhajan Partap Singh Dhaliwal and Mrs. Sukarni Dhaliwal. Her mother said that she was hurt that Gazal had to undergo so many traumas; but today she is proud of her daughter. Her father said that they decided to tell all their neighbors and relatives about Gazal and that there was nothing to be ashamed of. Her neighbors via 3G video showed their love and support for her. Their interview summed with Aamir reinforcing that when parents accept you, the society also starts accepting your identity and sexuality.
